A two-vehicle accident on Highway 411 in Cherokee County on Wednesday claimed the life of a Cedar Bluff man.

The accident took place at 5:30am approximately five miles north of Centre and involved a 2007 Mack Truck being driven by Mardie Roberts of Grove Oak, Alabama – and a 2010 Nissan driven by 55 year old Thomas R. Gaylor.

Gaylor was fatally injured in the collision and it appears he was the only occupant of the Nissan.

The driver of the eighteen-wheeler was unhurt although the rig rolled over onto its side following the wreck.

Power poles were knocked down during the crash sending live wires across the roadway, leaving a number of homes without electricity for an extended period of time as Cherokee Electric Crews worked to remove the lines from across the truck and re-route power to the area.

The roadway was also blocked in both directions, as law enforcement conducted an investigation into the accident – and clean-up crews were called in to remove the debris from the scene.
