The Centre City Council took time during their Tuesday meeting to recognize Kevin Criswell and other volunteers who helped make this year’s “Horror at the Armory” a huge success.

As a thank you, the council approved 1-thousand dollars to help Criswell cover expenses associated with the fundraiser, which raised money to purchase lights for the new Dixie Youth Baseball field.

The council also honored the Parks and Recreation Department’s 7 and under soccer team, who are headed to the state playoffs.

Recreation Department Director Charles Glazner says the team performed very well in the district competition.

The Council approved 18-hundred dollars for hotel expenses for the team.

In other action, the council approved an executive decision to form a city basketball league.

Councilwoman Bess Yarbrough, who chairs the Recreation Committee, said there has been a lot of interest in forming the league.

Divisions include 12 and under, 10 and under and 8 and under and it for both boys and girls.

You can register your child at Centre City Hall from 2 until 4 p.m. through Friday of this week.

The registration fee is 50-dollars.

A birth certificate is required at registration.

For additional information, contact Charles Glazner at (256) 523-8509.

Council members then set their Christmas meeting for December the 10th.

It will be held at the Activity/Education Building at Cherokee County Health and Rehab.
