Authorities are investigating a Tuesday morning fire at a vacant building on Redmond Road in Rome. Firefighters were dispatched to the location about 7:30 and were met at the scene by visible flames and smoke.
The owner told Battalion Chief Gene Proctor that the home was empty, having been sold.
He added that the closing was actually set for later that same day.
The fire has been deemed suspicious and an investigation has been launched.
