Additional information has now been released regarding a criminal investigation occurring at the Forrest River Apartment Complex in Gadsden.

According to Gadsden Police Public Information Officer Captain Bobby Jackson, police were dispatched to the location shortly after 8:30 Monday morning in order to conduct a welfare check on 41 year old Vanessa Christine Lee.

Lee lived in the “C” section of the apartment complex, along with her boyfriend, 53 year old Leon Marbury III.

Officers discovered evidence that a crime had occurred at the apartment, and Marbury was soon located nearby and taken in for questioning; he was later arrested and transported to the Etowah County Detention Center, charged with Hindering Prosecution 1st Degree.

Shortly after 7:00pm detectives discovered the body of Vanessa Lee just off the roadway – near the intersection of Fain Street and Davis Street in East Gadsden.

The investigation is on-going with additional charges pending against Marbury.
