Jacksonville Man Dies in Northwest Georgia Auto Accident

According to several northwest Georgia media outlets an Alabama man involved in an auto accident approximately a week ago – has died.

61 year old Jacksonville resident, Robert Dale Barnwell passed away on Thursday morning at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga as the result of injuries sustained in an accident on U.S. 411 near Cave Spring involving a tractor trailer, on Thursday, February 5th.

Police reports indicate that Barnwell was driving a Toyota Prius westbound near the Rocky Hollow Road when his car veered into the eastbound lane, colliding with the tractor trailer driven by 44 year old Michael Shelton of Jasper, Tennessee.

Police say there was no way Shelton could have avoided the accident, and investigators are still looking into whether or not Barnwell may have had a medical problem that caused him to cross the centerline.

No citations were issued in regard to the accident.
