Getty Images/Vivien Killilea(LOS ANGELES) — Amid her battle with cancer, Shannen Doherty is still working on a project that brings back a flash from her past.
“Sneak peek from the #Heathers set….. jealous much?” she posted to Instagram on Tuesday.
The tease comes from the remake of her classic 1980s movie Heathers, which also starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. Doherty played the ominous Heather Duke in the cult classic.
In the snap, Doherty shows off herself wearing a brown wig tied off with a red scrunchy, the latter being the rank insignia of sorts of the head of the “Heathers,” a group of high school mean girls all named Heather.
The film, almost 30 years old, focused on Ryder befriending, then with Slater’s character’s help, killing off, their school’s bullies — including all but Doherty’s Heather Duke.
Entertainment Weekly reports the new TV Land show will feature a new heroine like Ryder’s character dealing with her own “Heathers.”
Doherty went on to star in other hits in the 80s and 90s, including Beverly Hills, 90210.
Recently her fellow 90210 stars paid tribute to Doherty at RewindCon in Bloomingdale, Illinois. They all wished her the best with her breast cancer battle.
“None of us are up here today without Shannen … she’s been through a lot,” actor Luke Perry said.
Jennie Garth said in a tweet, “To my soul sister @theshando strongest lady i’ve ever known. then and now. i used to be threatened by your spirit, now i’m in awe of it. you’ve taught me a lot about speaking my mind and not being afraid of my power.”
