Juliette Lewis Plays It Straight for "Secrets and Lies"

ABC/Bob D’Amico(NEW YORK) — If you’ve seen Juliette Lewis in ABC’s drama Secrets and Lies, you might notice she sounds a little different than she does in other roles — and for that matter onstage with her band Juliette and the Licks.

In the show, she plays Detective Andrea Cornell, and in this season, she’s on the case of a very high profile murder of a member of a famous family.

The character is no-nonsense, and that comes across in a flat delivery Lewis picked up from the detectives she spent time with as research for the role. “She speaks in a completely colorless, monotone way, because she gives nothing away,” Lewis told ABC Radio’s GMA After Hours

“…and that was one of the joys for me, because…I’m completely opposite of this character,” she said with a laugh. “And so she drives me insane to play, but that’s sometimes why I take parts.”

Secrets and Lies, which also stars Michael Ealy, airs Sunday night at 10 p.m. Eastern on ABC.
