Louisiana Mobile Home Fire Claims Lives of Three Alabama Children Christmas Day

Valley Head Death(s)

The three Alabama children who perished in a mobile home fire on Christmas Day while visiting loved ones in Louisiana were from Valley Head in DeKalb County.

12 year old Jasmine Mejia and her two brothers eleven year old Josue and nine year Rommy died in the blaze, which apparently had started in the kitchen area of the home, possibly due to a space heater.

Louisiana State Fire Marshal Butch Browning was interviewed by FOX8/WVUE TV

There were a total of 12 people in the home at the time of the fire – with everyone else managing to exit the home through various windows and a back door; they were all treated at a nearby burn unit at a hospital in Baton Rouge.

Officials say the home did not contain any working smoke alarms.

A memorial fund has been set up at Citizen’s Bank locations in Valley Head, Ider and Mentone.
