Lucasfilm/Sunset Boulevard/Corbis via Getty Images(NEW YORK) — If you thought the chemistry between Han Solo and Princess Leia was hot in those Star Wars movies, maybe it’s because Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher were sleeping together for real.
Carrie tells People magazine that she and Ford hooked up during the filming of the original Star Wars in 1976, despite the fact that Ford was a 33-year-old married father of two at the time. Fisher, who was just 19, tells People, “It was so intense. It was Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend.”
The affair is a secret that Fisher’s kept for 40 years, and which she’s now revealing in her new book The Princess Diarist.
Fisher writes that she and Ford first got together after a birthday party for Star Wars director George Lucas. Describing her feelings after their first night together, she writes, “I looked over at Harrison. A hero’s face — a few strands of hair fell over his noble, slightly furrowed brow. How could you ask such a shining specimen of a man to be satisfied with the likes of me?”
The romance ended by the time the movie wrapped, so by the time Leia and Han started their romance, in The Empire Strikes Back, Fisher and Ford were no longer involved. Still, she has fond memories of her time with the stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf herder.
“I was so inexperienced, but I trusted something about him,” she says. “He was kind.”
