Man Arrested Following Crash That Leaves Eight Year Old in a Coma

CigarroaAn eight year old girl was seriously injured in a single vehicle accident on Butler Dairy Road in Chattooga County on Monday afternoon.

According to law enforcement, Nolberto Freddy Cigarroa, was traveling on the wrong side of the road at a high rate of speed, when he lost control of the Pontiac Grand-Am that he was driving – and wrecked.

The young girl was partially ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries; she was taken to a Chattanooga area hospital via LifeForce Helicopter.

Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader says she is listed in critical condition – suffering from a collapsed lung and scarring on the other lung along with other injuries.

She is currently in a coma.

Cigarroa was charged with DUI, Driving without a Valid License, Driving on the Wrong Side of the Road, Seat Belt Violation for a Minor, Driving too Fast for Conditions, Failure to Maintain a Single Lane and Serious Injury by Motor Vehicle.

Cigarroa is currently being held in the Chattooga County Jail.

The accident remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
