Man Charged with Criminal Possession of Explosives

GodwinA DeKalb County man currently stands charged with three counts of Criminal Possession of Explosives.

According to Sheriff Jimmy Harris 43 year old Russell Neal Godwin of Ider was arrested last week after law enforcement responded to a distress call, during which a man stated that his wife was threatening to harm herself.

Authorities made contact with the woman to make sure she was okay, and at that point, she told them her husband was manufacturing explosives inside the home.

Deputies alerted the State Fire Marshal, the ATF, and other agencies – afterwards, a consent search of the residence turned up a large amount of chemicals and finished explosives; they also found where several devices had been set off in the yard of the home.

All the chemicals and explosives were immediately removed from the location, and the area was made safe.

Godwin was placed under arrest and transported to the DeKalb County Detention Center; a bond of $45,000 was set and additional charges are pending according to Sheriff Harris.
