Man Dies in Fall at Buck’s Pocket State Park on Sunday / UPDATED

Stanley Edward KirbyThe name of the person who fell to his death while hiking at Buck’s Pocket State Park, early Sunday evening, has now been released.

According to Sheriff Jimmy Harris, the victim, 35 year old Sylvania resident Stanley Edward Kirby, fell some 40 feet – sustaining fatal injuries.

Both Sheriff’s Office Deputies, and the High-Angle Rope Team of the Fischer Rescue Squad, responded to the location around 7:00pm – Kirby was pronounced dead by DeKalb County Coroner Tom Wilson.

Kirby had reportedly been hiking with his girlfriend, along with his sister and her boyfriend when the accident occurred.

Other agencies responding to the scene included: the DeKalb Ambulance Service, Geraldine Rescue Squad, Grove Oak Fire Department, Officials with the State Park Services, and an Air Evac Helicopter out of Huntsville

Sheriff Harris states “this is a tragic accident and our thoughts and prayers go out to all the family members. Thank you to the DeKalb Ambulance Service, Fisher and Geraldine Rescue Squads, Grove Oak Fire Department, Officials from the State Park Services, Air Evac Helicopter, Deputies and Investigators for their quick response on the scene.”
