Man Hit with Long List of Charges After Fleeing From Police

A man who led Georgia State Troopers on a chase late Sunday is facing multiple charges.

According to reports at the Floyd County Jail, a trooper attempted to stop a vehicle at East 19th Street and Dean Avenue for a faulty brake light.  The driver, identified as 26-year old Dante Rishad Edmondson of a Pebblebend Court address in Rome reportedly fled the scene in a reckless manner, resulting in numerous traffic violations. The trooper attempted a P.I.T maneuver on Dodd Boulevard but was unsuccessful. Edmondson continued fleeing in an apartment complex parking lot, where he struck the curb twice before exiting the vehicle as it was still moving.

The unattended vehicle struck a dumpster and Edmondson fled into a nearby wooded area; he finally surrendered after the trooper deployed his taser. Three plastic bags were located inside the vehicle and they contained suspected methamphetamine and crack cocaine along with digital scales.

Edmondson is charged with the possession of meth and cocaine, possession of drug-related objects, hit and run, fleeing or attempting to elude, too fast for conditions, passing in a no passing zone, failure to maintain a lane, running a stop sign, driving on the wrong side of the road, driving while unlicensed, no brake light, duty upon striking a fixture, reckless driving, obstruction of officers, three probation violations, and no seat belt.
