Man Threatens to Jump From Bridge in Floyd County Monday

There were some anxious moments in Floyd County Monday afternoon, as law enforcement officials attempted to entice a distraught man to come down from the Etowah River Bridge.  According to information from Lt. Paul Greene with the Rome PD, a call came into 9-1-1 at around 5:40pm reporting a man sitting on the bridge with his legs dangling over the edge.

The caller stated that it appeared as though the man had been drinking and the responding officers soon determined that the man was contemplating taking his own life. All lanes of 2nd Avenue were closed from Glen Millner Boulevard to Riverbend Drive with a negotiator being called to the scene, who was able to eventually talk the man off the bridge. The Rome Fire Department also responded and put a boat in the water as a precaution.

The situation was resolved by around 6:15pm and the man was taken to the hospital.
