Maryland Basketball Coach Mark Turgeon Agrees to Four-Year Extension

Joe Faraoni / ESPN Images(COLLEGE PARK, Md.) — Mark Turgeon is staying in College Park.

The University of Maryland head basketball coach agreed to a four-year contract extension through 2023 to continue coaching the Terrapins.

Turgeon, 51, has coached at Maryland for five years, leading the program to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. They reached the Sweet Sixteen last season, the first time since 2003.

The Terps have won over 100 games during Turgeon’s tenure: They’re 55-16 over the past two seasons. And despite losing four starters in the offseason, the team returns star Melo Trimble, and have high expectations entering the 2016 season.
