McCartney Construction Has Been Granted Four New Road Projects in Cherokee County

Cherokee County Commission 011McCartney Construction has been granted four new road projects in Cherokee County.

Those contracts were approved during the Tuesday meeting of the County Commission and they included the resurfacing of County Road 99, from County Road 41 to the Georgia State Line; the resurfacing of County Road 41 from County Road 46 to the Georgia State Line; the resurfacing of County Road 47 from 273 to County Road 52 and resurfacing of County Road 46 from County Road 15 to County Road 91.

The total county match for those four projects came to $445,732.08.

McCartney Construction was the sole bidder; those projects are expected to begin sometime next spring.

In other business the commission adopted a resolution renaming a portion of County Road 8, between County Road 45 and County Road 179, as the Gowens Brothers Highway; a 5% promotional “step-raise” was awarded to Jimmy Slayton in light of his recent promotion to the position of assistant superintendent at the Highway Department. Also, under “Special Requests for Funding” the Weiss Lake Improvement Association was awarded $2,000 with that money coming from District 2’s residual tobacco tax as part of the leftover funds being distributed under last fiscal year’s guidelines.

And the final item on Tuesday’s agenda was renewal of the agreement for forensic services:

That was Chairman Kirk Day who also announced a public hearing on vacating a portion of County Road 563 would be held during the next regular meeting of the county commission which will be held Monday, October 27th starting at 5:00pm, in the County Administration Building in Centre.
