Miley Cyrus "Got Too Stoned" and Screwed Up Bill Murray Musical Tribute

ABC/Randy Holmes(WASHINGTON, DC) — Bill Murray received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center Sunday night, as well as razzing from friends in the business, including a rare appearance from David Letterman.

However, it was Miley Cyrus’ attempt to honor him musically — with a rendition of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” — that made headlines, because the singer screwed it up. “F***, I f***ed up,” Cyrus was reportedly heard saying, adding to the celeb-heavy crowd, “Sorry guys, I got too stoned.”

To Paul Shaffer, the band leader, she apologized, saying, “We worked on this. He told me not to smoke too much and I forgot.”

Miley reportedly walked offstage, and her pal Murray attempted to cover for her, throwing jokes from his balcony seat. “This is happening right now in Washington DC, the 51st state in the union!” he exclaimed to laughs.

Eventually, Cyrus came back out, and the second go-’round went more smoothly.

Other guests there to honor — and gently roast — Murray were Ghostbusters his co-star Sigourney Weaver, along with Jimmy Kimmel and Aziz Ansari.

Before the show, Murray — who also got to meet President Barack Obama over the weekend — was asked what the two of them talked about. “Putting,” he replied.

The ceremony will air on PBS October 28th at 9:00 P.M.
