Friends, family and co-workers of Molly Barnes gathered at the Cherokee County Career and Technology Center Monday to officially dedicate the playground in her memory.
Cherokee County School Superintendent Mitchell Guice spoke before the new sign was revealed.
He said Barnes, who was killed in a tragic automobile accident in Georgia last year, was one of the school systems most loved and respected faculty members.
Guice says that one of the first tasks that Barnes took on at the Career and Tech Center was making sure that the playground was updated and made age appropriate.
He added that naming the playground in her memory was seen as a fitting way to honor her.
A balloon release followed the unveiling of the new sign to conclude Monday’s ceremony at the playground.
