“Moonlight,” “American Honey” Lead Independent Spirit Awards Nominees

Photo by David Bornfriend, courtesy of A24(LOS ANGELES) — The acclaimed movies American Honey and Moonlight tied with six nominations apiece for the 2017 Film Independent Spirit Awards, which highlight the best in independent film.

The Casey Affleck drama Manchester by the Sea earned five nominations, including a Best Male Lead nod for Affleck.

The aforementioned movies, along with Chronic and the biopic Jackie, are vying for Best Feature, which earned Natalie Portman a Best Female Lead nod.

The awards telecast will air live from Santa Monica, California on Saturday, February 25, 2017, on IFC at 5 p.m. Eastern time.
