The mother of a three year old Floyd County girl who died in September – is accused of Criminal Negligence for allowing her child to go with the man who stands accused of murdering her.
22 year old Kayla Leann Medckie, of a Foster’s Mill Road address in Rome – turned herself in at the Floyd County Jail at around 3:30 this (Friday) morning.
According to the warrant, on September 17th, Medckie reportedly confronted her then-boyfriend, David Zachery Gresham after the three year old had accused him of touching her inappropriately – she then allowed the child to leave with Gresham.
The warrant issued for Gresham, says he “maliciously caused bodily harm” to her at an unknown time and place on September 17th, resulting in trauma to her head and body.
Ella Camp was taken to Floyd Medical Center about 11:30am that same day and she was later air -lifted to Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital – where she died two days later.
Gresham was arrested on charges of felony Murder – along with first degree Cruelty to Children, Aggravated Battery and Reckless Conduct in connection with the child’s death.
Both Gresham and Medckie remain behind bars.
