Mrs. Doris A. Pearson, age 85 of Cedar Bluff passed away Wednesday April 16th at Erlanger Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 3 P.M. Friday April 18th at Cedar Bluff First UMC. with the Rev. Tim Kendrick, Dr. George Cobb, Rev. George Cobb & Rev. Steve Bishop officiating, burial will follow in the Sand Rock Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 P.M. Friday at the Church.
Pallbearers include John Awbrey, Harold Pearson, Phillip Pearson, Alan Pearson, Brian Johnson, Dewayne Pierce, Myron Wilson, Dan Baker, Tommy Lee, Jimmy Dean, Ben Nelson, Johnny Neyman & Richard Lindsey. Honorary Pallbearers Men of the John Chesnut Sunday School Class, Jim Camp Sunday School Class & Hollis Neyman.
Survivors include daughters, Leigh Ann Hester of Valley Head & Jenny (Jr.) Eubanks of Centre: 2 Grandchildren, Ashleigh A. Shankles & Andrew B. Adrian; Special caregiver Suzanne Mackey: several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Pearson; brother, Joe R. Awbrey; grandchildren, Adam Wayne and Deanna Marie Adrian.
Doris Pearson was a native of Cherokee County, in the Pollards Bend Community, was the daughter of the late Joe and Bernice M. Rattray Awbrey, was a retired teacher and librarian and was a member of the Cedar Bluff 1st United Methodist Church where she was very active for many years. She was a member of Retired Educators of Cherokee County, Daughters of the American Revolution, Cherokee County Library Board of Trustees, and Delta Kappa Gamma.
She had an intense interest in genealogy and history. She was active in securing support for building two additions to Cherokee County Library, providing more space and services. Doris was thrilled to see this progress in our county.
She loved her profession of teaching. Her students were important to her and she sought to give them skills they would need in life. She keeps in touch with many of her students. Seeing her students become successful—and many have been high achievers—brought her much happiness and satisfaction.
An avid reader, there was always a book with her. She had a rather large library of her own. Humbled and touched by responses from students after they left high school in the form of cards, telephone calls, and visits were very much enjoyed. Both teacher and student touched each others lives in a positive way.
She truly loved her many friends in this church and county. She felt many of her teacher friends were close like family. When one of them had problems, the hurt was felt by her too. Doris was blessed in so many ways—and she knew it.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cedar Bluff 1st United Methodist Church or the Cherokee Co. Library.
