Mrs. MaLou Smith

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Mrs. MaLou Smith, 88, of Gadsden, who passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015.  Bro. Mike Allums and Bro. Bill Abbott will officiate. Burial will be at Cherokee Memory Gardens. Collier-Butler

Funeral and Cremation Services will direct. MaLou has always loved Jesus, and lived out that love in always loving and encouraging her husband, children, family and friends.

Originally of Owensboro, KY, MaLou raised her family in Gadsden and crafted her career in art here. She served as Art Specialist for the Gadsden City Board of Education in the 1960’s and she helped found the Gadsden Museum of Art.

MaLou and husband James were longtime residents of Centre, AL, where they were members of First Baptist Centre and for 12 years owned Bay Springs Campground. In Gadsden, they attended James Memorial Baptist, where MaLou taught Sunday School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Smith, son, Michael Smith, sister and brother-in-law, Bee Gee and Tommy Robinson, father, E. Paul Sauer and step mother, Marie Sauer.

MaLou is survived by her children, Frederick (Pam) Smith, Miriam (Orva) McDonald, daughter-in-law, Susan Smith Walker, 9 grandchildren, Corey Smith, Kyle (Cindy) Hamby, Selena Smith, Melissa (Jeremy) Olson, Nikki Smith, Meghan McDonald, Kyle McDonald, Rachael (Heather Pritchard) Smith, James Smith, 8 great grandchildren, Charlie Smith, Cole Hamby, Harley Pierson, Kaelin Pierson, Jake Olson, Jon Tyler Olson,  Owen Olson and Phoenix Pritchard, one niece, Paula (Steve Baumohl)Denton, one nephew, Dale (Donna) Robinson, several great nieces and nephews, Justin Robinson, Jen (Michael) Hutzel, Audrey Hutzel, Chris Denton, Lakota Denton and constant companion, Smokey the cat.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Hamby, Kyle McDonald, Matt Johnson,

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Susan Fitts and the Alacare Hospice Staff who cared so for her.

The family will receive friends from 12 pm until 2 pm at the funeral home Tuesday.
