Multiple Accidents Occur Over the Weekend in Cherokee, DeKalb Counties

Two Cherokee County residents were hurt in a single-vehicle wreck occurring in DeKalb County late Saturday afternoon.

According to Alabama State Trooper accident reports, that crash took place at 5:45pm on County Road 176, and involved a 2003 Toyota, driven by 71 year old Buddy Barkley of Centre.  Both he and his wife, 68 year old Doris Barkley, were transported to Gadsden Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Barkley was treated at Gadsden Regional, then air-lifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham – while Mr. Barkley was transferred to UAB by ambulance.

Family members tell WEIS Radio News that both suffered multiple injuries.

The cause of that accident remains under investigation by state troopers.

Also on Saturday, a 21 year old Piedmont man was hurt in a single-vehicle wreck taking place in Cherokee County. 

Cameron Stroud, driving a 2000 Chevrolet was injured in that mishap on County Road 19 shortly after 1:30am.

On Sunday, 17 year old Caleb Pendleton was injured in a wreck involving a 1990 Nissan, at 9:15 that night on Highway 411 in Cherokee County.

No additional information was available regarding the extent of injuries suffered by either Stroud or Pendleton and both of those accidents remain under investigation.
