A trial date has been set for an Etowah County woman accused of running her granddaughter to death.

The capital murder trial of Joyce Garrard has set for June the 26th of next year.

Garrard allegedly forced 9-year old Savannah Hardin to run for three hours as punishment for lying in February of 2012.

The child collapsed and died three days later.

Garrard was arrested and charged with capital murder while the child’s stepmother, Jessica Mae Hardin was charged with murder.

Jessica Hardin, who authorities say failed to intervene, was released on bond earlier this year after her bond was reduced from 500-thosand dollars to 150-thousand dollars.

Garrard remains jailed after bond was denied earlier this year.
