Cherokee County School Bus Accident – UPDATED

We now have an update regarding the accident involving a Cherokee County school bus Tuesday morning on the bypass in Centre.

According to the Centre Police Department accident report, the mishap occurred at 7:13am at the intersection of the 411 Bypass and North Williams Street – where the school bus and a Chevrolet Colorado collided.

The bus driver was listed as being 53 year old Jimmy Butler of Sand Rock while the driver of the pickup was listed as Brian Teal, and the passenger in that vehicle, was his brother, Austin.  There were reportedly more than 30 students on the bus.

According to the accident report, no one was hurt in the wreck – however, WEIS Radio was later contacted by the father of the two young men in the pickup and told that that was not the case.

A text message from Matt Teal to WEIS Radio said (quote) “there were two hurt…the bus pulled out in front of my boys…they did go to the ER…no one on the bus was hurt.” (end-quote).

Apparently both young men were transported to the hospital by private vehicle.

No additional information was provided regarding the extent of those injuries reportedly suffered by either Brian or Austin Teal.
