Officer Involved Shooting Claims Life of Anniston Man

An officer involved shooting which claimed the life of an Anniston man on Tuesday is under investigation.

According to the website al.com 53 year old Frank Charles Johnston was shot and killed after he allegedly pointed a weapon at officers who were responding to a 9-1-1 call in the Blue Mountain community at around 9:30am.

It was later discovered that the man had been holding what is known as an “airsoft” type weapon which is designed to shoot pellets much like a typical BB gun; the weapon did actually resemble a real firearm and from the distance officers were unable to tell otherwise.

The two officers involved in the shooting have not been identified and are being questioned and tested according to departmental procedure.

What led to Johnston’s actions that morning is unclear at this time.
