What most people remember as the old Desoto Mills building, just outside of Ft Payne, went up in flames Monday.
According to reports, area firefighters responded to the scene at Wooten Gap Road, around 10:30am.
According to WAFF approximately 1,000 bales of cotton were on fire.
Terry Roman’s Southern Wholesale Fibers Factory in Higdon had burned during summer of 2015, so he had reportedly decided to move back to Ft Payne and get his recycling business back on track.
Company officials stated that some of their larger equipment had just come in and the start up operation was just around the corner.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
