One Cent Sales Tax Vote Will Be in March 1st Primary Instead of November General Election

Cherokee County Commission 011Monday’s meeting of the Cherokee County Commission featured a lengthy agenda including the placement of the continuation of the One Cent Sales Tax for Education on the March 1st Primary ballot, rather than the ballot for the General Election in November.

Commission Chairman Kirk Day.

Commissioners Randy Jones, Kimball Parker and Carlton Teague voted to place the issue on the Primary ballot, while Commissioner Marcie Foster disagreed, having already stated that she felt the issue should be on the ballot when the most voters will go to the polls – and that would be in the November during the General Election.

In other business, the commission approved the pay scale adjustments and reclassifications as requested by various department heads, with the change scheduled to go into effect with the January 7th pay period.

An agreement was also approved with Motorola for the purchase of radio equipment.

That measure passed unanimously.

A number of board appointments will also be addressed during the first meeting of the new year on January 11th; those include the appointment to the Cherokee County Park Board to complete the unexpired term of the late Mr. Henry Wright; appointment/reappointment of two three-year terms to the Centre-Piedmont-Cherokee County Regional Airport Authority; and also an appointment to the Cherokee County E9-1-1 Board, to fill the unexpired term of Kevin Ware. The submittal of resumes and letters for each of the positions will be accepted through Wednesday, January 6th. Another appointment to the E9-1-1 Board will take place during the January 25th meeting of the county commission with resumes and letters for the position being accepted through Wednesday, January 20th.

The commission also approved sale of a 2006 Massey-Ferguson Tractor – with a side-boom cutter – to the Town of Leesburg for the amount of $20,000.

This note – the December 28th meeting of the Cherokee County has been cancelled, with the next regular meeting set for Monday January 11th at 10:00am in the County Administration Building in Centre.
