A three-vehicle crash in Floyd County Wednesday afternoon left one dead and another injured

That accident occurred at the intersection of Old Rockmart Highway and Georgia 101.

According to Sergeant Baker Harbin of the Floyd County Police Department, Prudencio Cornejo –Hernandez was stopped at a stop sign on Old Rockmart Road – about to turn right – while two other cars – a blue Mustang followed by a white Nissan sports car – were both traveling south on 101.

The Mustang reportedly had its right blinker on, preparing to turn right onto Old Rockmart Road however the Nissan didn’t stop in time and had a minor collision with the Mustang; and that was followed by a major collision between the Nissan and the vehicle driven by Hernandez.

The impact caused the vehicle driven by Hernandez to flip twice before catching on fire – with Hernandez trapped inside; he was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:00pm.

The driver of the Nissan was transported to Floyd Medical Center – complaining of back and hip pain.

Whether or not any charges will be filed in connection with the incident remains unclear.
