One Killed; Three Injured in Monday Night Home Fire

According to information in a news release from Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin – a nine year old boy died Monday night in a mobile home fire in the Keener community.

Firefighters of the Keener Volunteer Fire Department, Rainbow City Fire Department and Sand Valley Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, on Highway 11 North, in Attalla – at around 10:00pm.

Callister Atchley was fatally injured in the fire; meanwhile 33 year old Jennifer Bates was taken by LifeSaver Helicopter to a Birmingham area hospital for treatment – along with a ten year old girl; additionally a four year old boy was transported to a Gadsden area hospital for treatment.

No additional information regarding the severity of their injuries has been made available.

The body of the nine year old has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.

An investigation into the blaze has been launched by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Etowah County Arson Task Force.
