Overturned 18 Wheeler Blocks Highway 411 South Between Centre & Leesburg

A portion of U.S. Hwy 411 South between Centre and Leesburg was shut down for several hours on Sunday as crews worked to upright an 18 wheeler that overturned at the location, completley blocking both southbound lanes.

The truck was reportedly hauling household appliances. Traffic was being diverted down Old Highway 411 into Leesburg while both northbound lanes remained open.

It took crews well over five hours to offload the trailer before the vehicle could be up-righted and then removed from the roadway.

According to Centre Police, the driver identified as Riley Shorter of Ellijay, Georgia ran off of the shoulder of the road, over-corrected and overturned the 2015 Freightliner. Shorter was taken by Cherokee EMS to a Gadsden hospital for treatment of injuries.

Centre Police and Fire Departments, Cherokee EMS, the Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Leesburg Police and Leesburg Fire Department responded to the scene.
