The owner of the Weiss Mart Marina & Discount Liquor on Highway 9 in Cedar Bluff has been arrested following a routine inspection by the Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office on Friday.

According to Sgt/Inv. Jp Curry with the Cedar Bluff Police Department Officers with the Fire Marshal’s Office were conducting inspections at the Weiss Mart, Liquor Store and the Weiss Lake Motel. During the inspection officers discovered in plain view numerous glass smoking pipes in addition to other drug paraphernalia, all of which are illegal under the Banned Smoking Products Ordinance.

Several banned smoking products were also recovered during the search. 34 year old Jigarkumar Patel was arrested by Cedar Bluff Police and charged with two counts of violating the Banned Smoking Products Ordinance in addition to six counts of Reckless Endangerment.

Sgt. Curry said that the Reckless Endangerment charges were brought on after six rooms serving as residency for six individuals were found to have several fire code violations.

Patel was released at the Cedar Bluff Police Department after posting a $4,000 cash bond. Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Investigators also assisted in the case.

The case remains under investigation.
