Pedestrian Killed on Shorter Avenue Late Wednesday Night

Pedestrian Killed 2A man was killed when he was struck by a vehicle in Floyd County about 9:30 Wednesday night.

According to Rome police reports the driver of the vehicle was traveling east on Shorter Avenue in the inside lane, near Ellison Street just before Burnett Ferry Road.

The driver told officers he never saw the pedestrian until the man was at the right front fender of his vehicle.

According to the report, the pedestrian was thrown almost 50 feet from the point of impact; the name of the victim, a 44 year old male, has yet-to-be released pending notification of next of kin

The driver was apparently not charged in connection with the incident.
