Piedmont Utility customers are getting a break on their heating bills.
Mayor Bill Baker announced a winter rate reduction during Tuesday’s Piedmont City Council meeting.
Also during Tuesday’s council meeting there was a discussion regarding the wording of legislation that would allow Sunday alcohol sales in Piedmont.
A recent article in the Anniston Star says the wording of the bill indicates the Sunday sales would become legal as soon as it becomes law and that doesn’t sit well with some council members who thought the council would have the final say if the legislation passes in Montgomery.
The bill apparently also takes away the council’s authority to repeal Sunday sales later on.
In other action Tuesday, the council reappointed Dr. Benjamin Ingram to the Health Care Authority and Vera Jo Myers to the Library Boards.
The council took no action on an agreement with ITS concerning the leasing of fibre optic cable from the city with the city, in turn, giving most of that money to the school system for internet service.
Baker says they are waiting for ITS to draw up the contract to present to the council.
