Piedmont Police Involved In High Speed Pursuit Spanning Three Counties

Piedmont Police were involved in a high speed pursuit on Friday night that lead officers through three counties in Alabama and into Polk County, Georgia before crossing back into Alabama.

According to Piedmont Police Chief Freddie Norton, his department was assisting the Calhoun County Sheriff’s office on a shots fired call on Highway 278 West at Lucky Rd. while officers were there 2 vehicles pulled into the driveway and when officers approached them a White GMC Yukon ran from the officers.

The chase which lasted well over an hour, went through Piedmont before crossing into Cherokee County eventually ending up in Cleburne County reportedly reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.

During the pursuit, the driver struck a Piedmont Patrol Car on Cherokee County Road 8 at the intersection on County Road 175.

Chief Norton says that officers lost the vehicle after it turned onto a 4 wheeler trail in Cleburne County. Norton said that they do have a positive identification on the suspect and charges are pending in connection with the pursuit.
