A wreck involving an eighteen wheeler and a car occurred just across the Alabama/Georgia line in Floyd County at around 5:00am Wednesday, resulting in a portion of Highway 411 in that area being shut down.

According to Floyd County Police spokesperson Jerome Poole the tanker truck being driven by 61 year old Dennis Barnett of Whitesburg went onto the soft shoulder of the road in turn leading to Barnett overcorrecting and losing control of the vehicle, which then overturned.

The truck slid more than 400 feet before finally coming to rest against a power pole causing a power outage.  Barnett received minor injuries in the mishap.

The wreck was near the intersection of Gadsden and Rocky Hollow Roads.  Traffic was detoured off of Highway 411 onto County Road 45 over to County Road 22.

The big rig was reportedly hauling Phosphoric acid; the cargo wasn’t leaking, and there was no immediate danger from the situation; a HAZMAT crew was called in to clean up the area.

The roadway was finally re-opened just after 2:00pm.
