A 67 year old former employee of the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office was fatally injured in a single-vehicle accident Thursday night.
According to the accident report, James “Jim” Finley, a 22 year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office died from injuries sustained when his truck, a Ford Crew Cab – left the roadway in the 1200 block of Tidmore Bend Road, traveled approximately 170 feet then crashed into a gas main, finally coming to rest upside down.
It’s unclear what caused the retired deputy to initially lose control of the vehicle.
The accident remains under investigation.
