A child was rushed to Floyd Medical Center Monday afternoon after being pulled from the water at the Northside Swim Center.

Rome Police confirmed the 7-year old male went under while swimming at around 3 p.m. but could not give us an identity or a condition report. Misty Bennett told WRGA in Rome that her boyfriend, Darrell Gates, discovered the child, with his head under the water.

He grabbed the child, who was unconscious, and pulled him above the water line. A lifeguard jumped in, got the child from Gates and immediately began CPR. Bennett said she called 911 and the ambulance arrived shortly thereafter.

The Rome- Floyd Parks & Recreation Authority says they are conducting an investigation and attempting to gather all the facts surrounding the situation.
