Rome Man Sustains Injury In House Fire

A man suffered second and third degree burns escaping from a residential fire off Calhoun Road with the help of a passerby around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Rome Fire Department Battalion Chief Clete Bonney said the passerby saw the fire and used an axe on the front porch to bust out the glass on the front door, allowing the victim inside to crawl out.

Bonney says there was extensive damage done to the inside of the single-story house. The victim reportedly also suffered some lacerations to his stomach while he was crawling out.

The man was transported to Floyd Medical Center for treatment.
