Rome Police Arrest Man on Criminal Gang Activity Charge

ROME - Chatman 2Rome Police have arrested a 28-year old man for criminal gang activity in connection with an incident that occurred last week.

According to Floyd County Jail reports, Reginald Demetrius Chatman, of a Moran Lake Road address, participated in the beating of a woman on July the 8th.

He also allegedly pointed a pistol at the victim and threatened to kill her.

According to the arrest warrant, Chatman was a co-participant in the crime along with Jelissa Marshay Swain, who was arrested last week.

A third suspect was also reportedly involved.

The warrant stated that during the assault, all three suspects made it clear that they were members of “The Bloods” and stated that the woman would have to deal with “Ruby” because the victim was attempting to have a relationship with Swain’s boyfriend.

“Ruby” is a common term for female companions of “Blood” gang members and police believe the term in this case referred to Swain.

The warrant also stated that when the victim was asking for help from on lookers during the incident, one of the suspects said that no one will help because “It’s a gang thing.”

In addition to gang activity, Chatman was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, use of a firearm by a convicted felon and a couple of probation violations.

At the time of his arrest early Tuesday morning, police also reportedly founds drugs.

Chatman was additionally charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a synthetic narcotic and possession of an imitation controlled substance with the intent to distribute.

He is also facing a charge of possession of drugs past the guard line at the jail after deputies say they found suspected cocaine in Chatman’s ball cap during a search.

Chatman was taken into custody at a residence on Clearview Drive at around 5 a.m. Tuesday.

26-year old Tiffany Lynn Boozer was also arrested on charges of  possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of meth and possession of Xanax.
