Rome Teen Accused of Shooting 14 Year Old Girlfriend Facing More Charges

More charges have been filed against a 19-year-old Rome man who allegedly shot a 14-year-old girl in the head on November 8.

According to Floyd County Jail reports, Rome Police have filed additional charges of statutory rape, 1st degree cruelty to children and two additional counts of aggravated assault  against Deshawn Ronnell Gordon, of a Cherokee Street address. The victim and Gordon had a child together.

Gordon is now facing three aggravated assault charges–one for aggravated assault with the intent to murder, one for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one for felony aggravated assault.

Police say the victim has been transferred to Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta for therapy. She was shot in the head four times and only one bullet was removed. She has loss of hearing in one ear. She is making strides and is expected to walk and continue to recover, police said.

Gordon was charged at the time of his arrest with aggravated assault, false imprisonment, possession of a firearm, aggravated battery, and giving a false name and date of birth to law enforcement officers.

He remains in the Floyd County Jail without bond.
