Rome Woman Fatally Injured in Tuesday Morning Collision

Rome FatalityA 20 year old Rome woman was killed in a wreck on U.S 411 Tuesday morning, according to Rome police.

Lt. Chris DeHart said a white 1997 Toyota Camry driven by Kelsey Ely was traveling eastbound and for an unknown reason, crossed the median and hit a tractor trailer that was going west bound.

“We are trying to determine why,” DeHart said. “We have a lot of questions.”

The collision broke the trailer tandem but did not hit the truck. The driver was taken to Floyd Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. The car’s engine caught fire and a witness extinguished the fire, DeHart said.

The investigation into the wreck is continuing.
