Scammers Using Local Phone Numbers To Try To Steal Money And Personal Infomation

According to the Cedar Bluff Fire Department, on Tuesday morning the they were notified by a resident that they had received a call from someone claiming to be with the fire department attempting to solicit donations.

The number on the caller id showed to be the correct number for the fire department. Chief Jason Stewart wants to remind residents that while the department does accept donations they will never solicit them over the phone.

The department released the following statement on their Facebook page;

According to Joey Weaver, Public Information’s Officer for the Department, none of the 13 fire departments in Cherokee County solicit money over the phone. If you receive a call from someone claiming to be with the Cedar Bluff Fire Department attempting to collect money, you need to contact the Cedar Bluff Police Department immediately.

Last week scammers were calling claiming to be from Centre Auto Parts attempting to get potential victims to sign up for a Centre Auto Parts Credit Card which is something that Centre Auto Parts doesn’t even offer.
