School Bus Catches Fire Wednesday Afternoon; No One Hurt

Oxford BusAn Oxford School Bus caught fire Wednesday afternoon.

Fortunately no one was hurt thanks to the quick actions of the bus driver, who stopped the vehicle then evacuated the 20 to 30 school children onboard – after he detected an odor of something burning.

Oxford Police say the engine apparently caught fire and the flames soon spread to the front rows of the bus. Police and firefighters responded to the scene at approximately 3:15 – and the blaze was quickly brought under control.

The incident took place on Marsh Lane near the Talladega County line; afterwards, parents of some of the children arrived to pick them up, meanwhile another bus arrived and picked up children in order to continue the route.

The damaged bus was towed to the Oxford City Garage, where it’ll be inspected in an effort to determine what caused the fire.
