Senator Gerald Dial Returns His Paycheck for the Special Session

Dial says Legislature could have worked out a solution for Medicaid in the regular session

Senator Gerald Dial (R-Lineville) has returned his paycheck from the legislative special session to the State of Alabama. The special session, which ended on September 7, was called by Governor Robert Bentley to give additional funding to the state’s Medicaid program.

“I believe the Legislature could have taken care of Medicaid during the regular session,” Dial said. “Now, some good things came out of the special session –we used the BP settlement to pay off $400 million in debt and to fully fund Medicaid – but the bottom line is I don’t feel right about accepting a paycheck when we could have solved some of these issues during the regular session.”

Last year, Dial also returned paychecks for the two special sessions Governor Bentley called over disagreements with the Legislature on the General Fund budget.

Senator Gerald Dial represents District 13 in the Alabama Senate, which includes all or parts of Randolph, Lee, Cleburne, Clay, Cherokee, and Chambers counties. He serves as Chairman of the Senate Health & Human Services Committee.
