Sergeant Freddie Norton Named Acting Police Chief in Piedmont

Tidwell 3 - NortonSergeant Freddie Norton will become the acting Piedmont Police Chief in the next few days.

Police Chief Steven Tidwell turned in his resignation Wednesday – citing “recent health and personal issues” which he says led to that decision.

In an e-mail to WEIS Radio, Tidwell says he plans to focus on his law practice, and continue working and teaching in the field of emergency medicine.

Tidwell said it had been an honor and a privilege to serve the citizens of Piedmont – and he wishes the department and the City nothing but the best as he pursues other opportunities.

He added that he feels confident that Norton will “keep the department moving forward.”

Tidwell’s resignation will be effective two weeks from tomorrow (Friday, October 10th).
