ABC News(NEW YORK) — Kristi Yamaguchi’s name is practically synonymous with figure skating, but there’s a lot more to know about the Olympic athlete.
Yamaguchi, who took home a gold medal at the 1992 Olympics, is also a New York Times bestselling children’s book author, recently releasing her third book, Cara’s Kindness.
“Going into the third one, I just wanted to create some new characters and again have a strong message for the children,” Yamaguchi, 45, told ABC News.
“And I thought about paying it forward and kindness being that act,” she continued. “There’s a lot of tough things going on in the world but I don’t think kids can learn early enough how far kindness will take you.”
Yamaguchi was kind enough to jump in the hot seat for the latest edition of ABC News’ Lightning Round, answering our questions such as, “What’s your favorite sport to watch aside from ice skating?”
Hint: It’s the sport her husband, Bret Hedican, played for 18 years.
