Shooting Suspect Now in Custody

Townsend in Custody

41 year old Travis Townsend of Fyffe is now in custody.

He was wanted in connection with the shooting of Jackson County resident Bobby Harper earlier in the week; Harper was shot by Townsend at a residence in the Dawson area on Tuesday, and he had been the subject of a manhunt since that time.

DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said that he received a text message on Wednesday night – informing him that Townsend was coming back into the county – and that the person sending the text would let Sheriff Harris know when Townsend arrived at the residence; the message went on to say that Townsend wanted to tell his side of the story – adding that if the sheriff came alone he would turn himself in.

True to his word after receiving the call Harris went to the residence in Dawson where Townsend turned himself in.

Following the shooting on Tuesday, Harper was air-lifted from the scene, and taken to Huntsville Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition and reportedly is expected to make a full recovery

The motive for the shooting has yet to be released and the investigation into the matter continues.
