Shoplifting Arrest Results In Additional Charges For Northwest Georgia Man

Dotson, BurlCentre Police Chief Kirk Blankenship, has announced that a northwest Georgia resident was arrested Wednesday on a Theft of Property 4th Degree charge at the Centre Wal-Mart.

Investigator Randy Mayorga responded to reports of a shoplifting suspect being detained at the location and upon  arrival he met with the store Asset Protection Manager who told him the suspect had been observed concealing items in his clothing – and after being confronted had repeatedly asked if police were going to be called.

Investigator Mayorga then spoke with the man, asking for his name and date of birth and at that point Mayorga said that the man originally gave him a false name and date of birth. Mayorga then advised the subject that it was a felony offense to provide false information in order to impede charges.

56 year old Burl Dotson was arrested and charged with Giving A false Name And Information To A Law Enforcement Officer, Theft of Property 4th Degree, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree.

Mayorga said that Dotson was taken into custody after he was found to be in possession of a shoulder holster, a bb-gun which he stole from the store in addition to a large quantity of bb’s which he was nice enough to purchase.

Chief Blankenship expresses his appreciation to the AP and Management Team from Wal-Mart as it is strongly believed that a greater crime was deterred because of their swift actions, Blankenship also wanted to send a special thank you to Detective Michelle Sims with the Rome Police Department for her assistance with the case, she was able to check jail records their and discovered that Dotson had an active warrant in Georgia for Non-Support.

Dotson also has a previous charge of convicted felon in possession of firearm, he remains in the Cherokee County Detention Center on an $11,500 bond.
