Shots Fired During Traffic Stop; Suspect Taken into Custody

Rome Shots FiredA man is in custody, following an incident in East Rome Sunday morning, where shots were fired as police were attempting to make a traffic stop.

According to Major Debbie Burnett with the Rome PD, the officer attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver failed to stop.

Once at Hull Avenue at East 18th Street, the suspect bailed out of the vehicle and ran.

Burnett stated it was at that point that a shot was fired and the officer returned fire; neither the officer or the suspect was hit.

The man was taken into custody following a short foot chase. Following a K-9 search of the area, the weapon used by the suspect was recovered.

According to Floyd County Jail records – Dunigan Prince Rogers, age 38 – was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, felony obstruction, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of drug related objects, driving on a suspended or revoked license and failure to obey traffic control devices.
